On March 12, the International College of USTC organized the Nature Observation Activity in collaboration with the Society of Nature Conservation of USTC. International students and members of the society went to Chaohu Lake to observe birds in the wild and appreciate the beauty of nature together.

Closer to birds

On the morning of March 12, under the guidance of teachers from the International College, Chinese and international students went to  Chaohu Lake. Escaping from the hustle and bustle of the city, students enjoyed the idyllic serenity and tranquility in the countryside. At the wetland of Chaohu Lake, the students learned how to use the telescope to oberve birds with the help of Mr. Wang, the chairman of the Society of Nature Conservation, which include gallinule, little buntings, Black-collared starlings, and Eurasian coots and so on. Besides birds obeservation, Chinese and international students got closer to each other through a series of communication activities, developed their friendship and learned much from different cultures.

Visit the museum

On the afternoon, the students and teachers visited the Science Museum of Cyanobacteria. The staff introduced the history of Chaohu Lake’s development and illustrated how to work on the Cyanobacteria in a professional and scientific way. The students gained more knowledge about cyanobacteria and realized that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets. It requires advanced technologies and  joint efforts to achieve the harmonious coexistence between man and nature.

Nature is the mother of all and it is our companion since eternity. “This activity is very meaningful and we learned a lot, about those lovely birds, about the harmful Cyanobacteria. I also made friends with some Chinese students and spent joyful time together.” A student said. The International College will organize more educational activities in the future for Chinese students and international students.
