Program
The Atomic Energy Scholarship (AES) Program of the China (Phase 1) was jointly initiated by the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA) and the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (MOE) with the aim of fostering outstanding young talent working in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy from developing countries.

Master’s degree: 2-3 years
Doctoral degree: 3-4 years
Eligibility
The scholarship is open to applicants who meet the following requirements:
1. Citizens of countries other than the PRC who are committed to the nuclear industry for the benefit of the society and in good health;
2. Holders of a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in such majors as nuclear engineering, nuclear technology applications, mechanics, energy, chemical engineering and physics with strong capability of scientific research;
3. Proficiency in English (spoken, written & reading), with valid certificate of language proficiency;
4. Education and age limit:
Holders of a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent under the age of 35 when applying for a Master’s program;
Holders of a Master’s degree or its equivalent under the age of 40 when applying for a doctoral program;
5. Those with work experience in nuclear or related fields will be given priority consideration.
6. Applicants must meet the admission criteria for international students of USTC.
Application Process
All the applicants need to
(1) Submit their application in the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn). Please note the scholarship type should be “Type B”; the agency number is “10358”; preference Institute is “University of Science and Technology of China”;
(2) Send the required materials to aesp@ustc.tsg211.com before April 30, 2024 (GMT+8, Beijing Time).
Application Documents
Applicants must submit the following application materials, which must be true and valid:
1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship via the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn), and the
Admission Application Form via the Online Registration System of the target university (see Attachment);
2. A scanned copy of the passport information page (Private passport).
An applicant shall submit a clear scanned copy of the information page of his/her Private passport that will not expire on or before December 31, the year of admission. Renew the passport if the requirement is not met;
3. Diploma and certificate of highest education (notarized photocopy).
An applicant who is a current university student shall submit the certificate of expected graduation or student status issued by his/her university. The diploma or certificate in languages other than Chinese or English shall be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English;
4. Academic transcripts (starting from undergraduate till the last semester). Transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the Office of Academic Affairs, the Graduate School or the department for student administration. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English shall be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English;
5. Certificate of language proficiency.
When applying for a Chinese-taught program, an applicant shall provide a valid HSK score report that meets the program’s language ability requirements (HSK 4 or above, scoring no less than 180). When applying for a program taught in a language other than Chinese, an applicant shall provide a certificate of proficiency in the language as required by the designated university;
6. A study plan written in Chinese or in English (no less than 1000 words/characters);
7. Recommendation letters.
Two recommendation letters in Chinese or in English from professors or associate professors are required, with focus on learning objectives and requirements for the applicant;
8. A photocopy of the foreigner physical examination form.
The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are invalid. Medical examination results are valid for only six months;
9. If the applicant is employed, a certificate of employment from the employer must be submitted.
10. An applicant shall submit a valid certificate of non-criminal record (or police clearance certificate) issued by the local public security (such as the police station), usually issued within six months prior to the submission date of the application;
11. Other materials required by the university.
Note:
l Applicants who do not meet the eligibility requirements or who provide invalid application materials will not be accepted.
l The university reserves the right to suspend the scholarship upon discovering that there is any inaccurate information or false materials found in the application materials provided by the applicant.
Assessment and Enrollment
Applicants who meet the scholarship requirements will be reviewed by the university they have applied for, and assessed and decided by the China Atomic Energy Authority, the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the China Scholarship Council for acceptance.
1. Scholarship recipients are not allowed, in principle, to change the major or the duration of study stated in the Admission Notice. Transfer to another major, school, or advisor is not permitted.
2. The scholarship recipients will be notified by the university via email before July 31st of the year of admission.
3. If a scholarship recipient fails to register as required by the university, the scholarship will be forfeited.
